Using E-mail Filters

Using your Web Panache e-mail interface, you can create processing rules which filter messages.  This helps to minimize SPAM from a particular industry, company or person.

For instance, you may create a 'filter' that says, "Do not allow the delivery of any e-mail message that contains the word ADVERTISEMENT in the Subject line".  Using filters is highly effective, however, they should be used with caution.  The filters are binary and cannot tell the difference between actual SPAM and an e-mail from a long lost friend or customer; they base their filtering decision on the exact criteria you provide.

To Create E-mail Filters

  1. Access your E-Mail Administration Interface using your Administrator ID (e.g. root@yourdomain.com).
  2. From the Mailbox Summary Screen, click "Domain Processing Rules"  listed under Options/Administration. A list of existing rules displays, or a blank screen if no rules have been activated.
  3. Click the "Add" button to the right of the list.  The Add a Rule screen displays.
  4. Select an option from the "Send Mail When The:" drop down list. Your selection defines how you want incoming mail to be filtered (i.e by what is in the Subject, To, From, Sender, Header or Body fields).
  5. Select "Contains" or "Doesn't Contain" to specify how you want the mail to be filtered.
  6. In the text box, type the word, word phrase or character string you would like to filter for.
  7. To automatically delete filtered messages, select <delete> in the "to the Mailbox" fieldTo automatically send filtered messages to a specific e-mail address, select <new> and type the address in the field next to your option.
  8. Check the "Match case" checkbox if you would like your filter to be case sensitive (e.g. the filter may delete emails that contain "Pyra" but not "pyra")
  9. Finally, click the "Add" button on the top left corner listed under Add a Rule.
  10. Verify that the filtering rule you added is listed in the Existing Rules table.  Once listed, you may return to this screen to Modify or Delete existing rules.
