Les Baux

We saw so many cities and villages on our trip. Although I cannot possibly list them all and provide photos, I must include Le Baux and Marseille within these pages. Le Baux is an ancient perched Medieval village complete with a castle and weapons of war. What makes it beautiful is the view of the surrounding provencal valleys.

Les Baux From Above

If you have never been to Marseille, you really must experience it. Although beautiful and charming, it is the type of rough port town where you get the feeling you could disappear into any number of horrors at a given moment and no one would ever find you again. It is full of the mysteries of crime and unfinished stories. Often I had the feeling that we were observing a way of life that had existed for centuries - underground, secretive and dark. We spent only one night there, but - as common in France - we stayed up until long after the sun rose hopping from one experience to another witnessing all the culture and active night life. It was spectacular.

View of Marseille

After a few hours of sleep, we headed for the Cannes where we spent one wild night. Beyond that, we headed for le Mont St. Michel!
