On our way to Marseilles, we spent one night in Arles which is located in the
heart of the Provence area. Luck was in our favor as we were able to acquire a room across
from the famous Van Gogh Cafe where the artist spent much of his time. The hotel itself was something out
of a Van Gogh painting - brightly decorated and somehow surreal. Christophe and I tried to
blend ourselves into the backgrounds of the wildly painted walls and wondered how it would
feel to actually BE in one of the paintings.
After the fun, yet family oriented night life in Auvillar, we
were really in the mood to celebrate and find some adventure. After a fabulous Provencal
meal, we wandered the tiny village streets in search of an underground disco. As we
meandered along the cobblestones, we were taken by the feeling of traveling back in time
to a moment where an artist such as Van Gogh might be inspired to create.
We never found the disco, but circled the ancient wall that
surrounds the village and found a hole just large enough for two people to jump inside. We
took a spur of the moment photo, then continued our search for more wine, beer and good
times! Next stop - Les Baux and Marseilles!
