Publishing with FrontPage via Your America Online (AOL) Connection

We have discovered some "traps" many AOL users fall into when using FrontPage because of the restrictions of their connection.  If you are an AOL user having publishing problems,  please read the following:

  • You must have the latest 32-bit version of America Online's Internet software, version 3.0 installed on your computer.

  • You must log on to AOL before you start any FrontPage component. If you start FrontPage before you log on to AOL, FrontPage will not be able to find the network, and you will not be able to publish your content.  It is not enough to connect after the fact.  You must close FrontPage, connect to AOL, then re-open it after a connection has been established.

  • If AOL "drops" the connection while you are working on your web, you must exit and re-start FrontPage. In some cases you might have to restart your computer.

Note:  You must pay special attention to your connection time and ensure that AOL's automatic disconnect feature does not activate while you are publishing. Be sure to allow plenty of time (fifteen minutes or more). If you lose your connection while FrontPage is publishing, you will create a site locked situation.

If you are using FrontPage 2000, please review the following important article from Microsoft:
