Jeremy (Jerry) Montague was born in 1949 in Syracuse. He attended K-8 grades at Most Holy Rosary Elementary School, and, after a brief layover at Bishop Ludden, was a 1968 graduate of Corcoran High School. Jeremy received his A.A. from Onondaga Community College (1970), his B.S. from SUNY-Geneseo (1973), his M.S. from Kent State University (1976), and his Ph.D. from Syracuse University (1983). In between college programs in the 1970's, Jeremy worked three years for Computer Task Group, Inc., Syracuse Microfilm Company, and Murbro Parking, Inc. He became a full-time college professor at SUNY-Cortland (1982-1983).
In 1983, Jeremy married Deborah (Deb) Ruth Fraser. Deb was born and raised in Monroe Connecticut, the first child of Alexander and Ruth Fraser (she has a brother, Jeffrey, who lives today in San Francisco). A 1979 graduate of Masuk High School near Monroe, Deb went on to Syracuse University, majoring in biology. In 1981, Deb became a work-study student in the laboratory of Dr. Tom Starmer, who was Jeremy's Ph.D. mentor. Deb and Jeremy both graduated from Syracuse University in 1983. Sadly but amicably, Deb and Jeremy divorced in July 2001.
Jeremy began teaching college biology in 1983 at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL, where is a full professor today. Deb is an Assistant Dean at Barry University (she received her M.B.A. in 1987). Jeremy and Deb have two daughters, Kristin and Kelly.
