Mr. Colon also serves as a department self-defense instructor, specializing mainly in defensive tactics and fighting for street patrols and SWAT-teams.
Mr. Colon completed two years of college (computer science) in Puerto Rico. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1990, eventually becoming a sergeant and tank commander in an armored battalion in Germany.
Mr. Colon loves music and is an avid guitarist (though he claims "old-age & mangled fingers" have cooled his riffs somewhat!). He very much enjoys working with young martial arts students, particularly his sons Carmelo, Jr., and Tom.
