What would we do without our volunteers??  I don’t know of any other extracurricular activity that involves the parents more. With the right attitude (and our parents have the right attitude!!), you can have a terrific time. We had a very successful first meet – thank you so much for all of your help – it couldn’t be run without you!!  Speaking of our first meet, what a nail-biter we had!!!  Nobody knew until the very end of the night which team would win…For those of you who don’t know, the final score was Maplewood 605, Piranhas 592. Better luck next time!!  What’s up for now….

What a wonderful web site!!  What’s available now on the web site – meet results – yes, you can get your individual swimmer’s times directly from our web site.  Just click on ‘”MEETS” from the Home page and follow the instructions given after scrolling down the page a bit.  Also on the site – Volunteer Assignments!!  Just click on “PIRANHA BITES” and you’ll see “Meet Volunteer Schedule” at the bottom of the current Bites. A neat little trick – once you click on “Meet Volunteer Schedule”, press ctrl F on your keyboard, type in your last name, and this will take you to all of your volunteer assignments.

Piranha Pals – What an overwhelmingly positive response we have had to this BRAND NEW program!!  Hopefully everyone has hooked up by now. If you have a child that is in the 6U or 7/8 age group and they have not at least met their Piranha Pal, please email Dana Cart at danacart@alltel.net and she’ll make sure you get connected.

Celebration Sugar – donuts magically appear at practice every Tuesday morning following a meet. Where does the donut dust come from? Once again, from YOU, our awesome parents!! If you’d like an opportunity to provide donuts for your child’s age/gender group, Dana still has some spots to fill. Just email her at danacart@alltel.net.

Vacation Plans – What, you hanging out with the Piranhas isn’t exactly a vacation?? If you plan to miss a meet due to vacation, a dance recital, a root canal, or whatever, please email Virginia Steele at msteele1@houston.rr.com no later than noon Friday before the following Monday’s meet. Please provide each swimmer’s full name and age group. It is very important that we know about planned absences so that we can set up the meet accordingly. If you have a last minute situation (after noon on Friday), that will cause an absence, please call the Piranhas hotline at 281.565.7361.

Finally, how about our coaches???  I don’t know about you, but I think they are SIMPLY THE BEST!!  Tell them if you think so – people love to hear positive feedback. Here’s their take on Monday night’s meet….Following are the “Swimmers of the Meet” for our first meet:

6U Girls       Audrey Vanderzyl            6U Boys       Cameron Moussavi

Coach’s Corner…a few words from Coach Jim…… Last night was a lot of fun for me on many fronts.  I have spent numerous hours over Blake’s lifetime watching him swim in swimming meets at Maplewood.  It brought back fond memories of all of us sitting around Dad’s portable table nestled against the fence on the Maplewood side.  Last night also gave me the opportunity to visit with both swimmers and students from Strake Jesuit, although the guys had warned me in advance for weeks that the Piranhas were “going down!”  We may have lost the nail-biter last night, but we ALL proved what a great team we have in our swimmers, coaches and parents.  It is a personal privilege to be working with all of you.  The coaches were very effective in leading and directing all of the swimmers throughout the night.  It was obvious that most of the swimmers were concentrating on the core fundamentals of swimming that the coaches are working hard to instill – posture in the water, ‘STREAMLINING’ if you will, starts, turns, and finishes.  And as for the parents, you make it so easy to work for a cause like the First Colony Piranhas Swim Team.  We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I have no doubt that we will continue to provide a lot of exciting meets this summer.  Keep up the good work everybody!!  --Coach Jim
