Domain Virus Processing Rule (Avoiding
potentially harmful emails )
Definition: Harmful email usually takes the
shape of email with attachments containing certain extensions.
This practice should be used with great care and if
you plan on receiving email with these types of attachments
this rule will not
enable the mail to go through.
Using your Web Panache E-mail interface, you are
able to filter attachments that contains specific file extensions ie. .exe .vbs
.js .scr .
- Access your
E-Mail Administration Interface using your Administrator ID (e.g. root@yourdomain.com).
-
From main page,
click the "Administrative Account Options" select box
and then click "Domain Processing Rules".
-
Click the "Add Rule"
link on the right side of the screen. The Add a Rule screen displays.
-
Select the "Field:"
Body , and check the "contains" (yes) radio
button. The mail server considers attachments
as part of the body of
the email document. It will then scan the attachment for the following
rule.
-
The Phrase: text area should
contain this string (copy and paste):
(name=".*\.vbs"\s|name=".*\.shs"\s|name=".*\.scr"\s|name=".*\.exe"\s|name=".*\.data"\s)
If you would like to add/remove file extensions be sure not to break
the pattern of the string.
-
To automatically delete filtered
messages, select <delete> in the "Move
to:" field. To
automatically send filtered messages to a new mail box, select <new>
and type the name of the name of the mail box in the field next to your
option, i.e. Spam or Virus.
-
Make sure that you do not have the
Case sensitive match or Search String From File checked.
-
Finally, click the "Add"
button on the bottom left corner listed Add.
-
Verify that the filtering rule you
added is listed in the Existing Rules table. It should look
something like this:
