ST. PETERSBURG STRING QUARTET January 9, 2005
Fullerton Friends of Music wishes to express our appreciation to the St. Petersburg String Quartet, who on short notice are performing at our Sunday, January 9th concert. Artists pictured, Violinists Alla Aranovskaya and David Chernyavsky; Violist, Aleksey Koptev and Cellist, Leonid Shukaev

The St. Petersburg String Quartet has received critical acclaim for their recorded performances of the complete survey of Shostakovich String Quartets for the Hyperion record label.

The ensemble has also recorded the Borodin String Quartets for Dorian Recordings, the Prokofiev String Quartets and the Recording Premiere of the Nadarejshvili String Quartet No. 1, which earned a First Prize at the All Soviet Union Composers Competition in Moscow, for the Delos International label.

"Most important the music makers on hand, the St. Petersburg String Quartet, currently the quartet-in-residence at Oberlin College in Ohio, produced a bold, luxuriant sound. Prokofiev's Second Quartet emerged in gutsy splendor, its Adagio mined for all its stately lyricism and with a focused intensity poured into the final Allegro, its marching cadences flecked with wit and charging flurries... with taut ensemble."
