Can you speak French? Where is your husband from exactly in France? Sticking to big cosmopolitian cities in either country could be a solution, i.e. San Francisco has a big French population where he can pursue most of his interests, I live in Strasbourg which has a hugh int'l. population and an American club, English speakers, etc. Lyon or somewhere in the south of France might suit you.
