Help!

I'm an American who married a Frenchman in Canada. We're both poor, so him sponsoring me to Canada was out of the question. Me sponsoring him to America was definately out of the question. We said screw it and moved to Central America. My husband just left last week because he was offered a job in France. I plan to meet him in France in 2 months. Now, we were both under the impression that since we're married, all I had to do was go to the prefecture upon arrival in France and get the carte de sejour. My husband just e-mailed me and told me he spoke with the prefecture and I need a visa before I can come. He didn't specify what kind of visa. CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TELL ME WHAT I NEED BEFORE ENTERING FRANCE! Or are we doomed to roam from country to country because we don{t meet the criteria outlined in spousal sponsorship applications. I'm ready to throw myself under a stinky Central American bus. >Merci, Dee
