My fiance and I met on the net a few years ago. Since then, we became friends, in love and finally we are getting married on Monday :) :) :) One thing many people don't expect when they fall in love with someone from elsewhere is all of the hoops they will have to go through to do all of the immigration paperwork. It is a lot of work, and takes a reasonable amount of time and money. Still, it is worth it in the end...

DOMINIQUE AND I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 12 YEARS. IT ALWAYS HAS NOT BEEN EASY.BUT AS THE YEARS GO BY ALOT OF THE PROBLEMS THAT STEM FROM BEING CULTURALY DIFFERENT GO AWAY.HE DOESN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT AMERICA INTERESTING AND FRANKLY NEVER DID. BUT I GAVE UP ALONG TIME AGO DEFENDING A NATION.I LOVE FRANCE GENERALLY BUT FIND ALOT OF THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE EITHER BUT DON'T EXPRESS ALL.HIS DREAM WAS TO ALWAYS MOVE BACK TO FRANCE,AND I''VE ALWAYS SUPPORTED THAT DREAM.SO WE HAVE JUST PURCHASED AN OLD MILL AND WILL START RENOVACION SOON.OUR TRIPS ARE VERY FREQUENT,AND I SMILE TO MYSELF EVERY TIME HE MUMBLES HOW FRUSTRATING IT IS TO DEAL THE FRENCH WAY.AMERICAN GIRLS WITH FRENCHMEN OUT THERE YOU WILL THANK GOD EVERY SUNDAY IN THE FALL THAT YOUR NOT CLEANING THE COFFEE TABLE OF BEER BOTTLES AFTER THE FOOTBALL GAME,BUT INSTEAD THE WINE BOTTLES FROM THE TABLE AFTER A WONDERFUL FRENCH LUNCH,

U.S. recognizing marriage in France?

Shannon, both Christophe and I are curious to know whether or not the U.S. recognizes weddings in France. I would like to marry him in France, and then we would most likely claim the U.S. as our residence. I assume from your pictures (which are beautiful, BTW!!) that you were only married once in France, not having to repeat the ceremony for legal purposes in the U.S. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you from both of us!! Sincerely, Theresa and Christophe

Dear Shannon,

I married a Frenchman in France 2.5 years ago. We have been together for 8 years on and off across the ocean and finally we decided to just get married. We live in a lovely part of France, but I can't work in education and we get no positive feedback from his family. Like you said, the charm of striking students and an economy with double digit unemployment is all gone. This whole experience of moving to France has been an absolute ordeal! Now, I'm convinced that that won't be true for everyone, but it has been for me. My question is this: what kind of laws can I expect about my French husband being able to work, and within what time frame, if we were to move back stateside? Do you know where i can get some clear answers on this one? What would his status even be--alien, resident? are we talking a green card here or what?

Thanks for any advice, Maria animasce@cybercable.tm.fr
