Mary O'Donnell Montague was born in 1921 in Williamsport PA.  She graduated from The Convent School (having attended Most Holy Rosary School through grade 10) in 1938.  Mary graduated from Syracuse University in 1942, and began an internship in dietetics at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC (1943-1944).  It was later at Lovell General Hospital in Fort Devens, Massachusetts that she met her future husband, Edward (Monty) Montague.  After her internship, she was commissioned as a 2nd-Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1944, and was stationed in the Midlands (Herefordshire) in England during 1944-1945.

Mary and Monty married in 1946.  Over the years they raised five children.  In 1962, Mary began a business partnership with the Hawley Photography Studio in Syracuse, photographing new-borns at four local hospitals (1962-1970).  Leaving professional photography in 1970, Mary was appointed  Activities Director for the Northeast Side Peoples' Organization. In 1973 she was appointed Executive Director of the Corinthian Foundation, Inc. with responsibility for the Wagon Wheel Senior Center. In 1977 she became Community Associate in the All-University Gerontology Center at Syracuse University.  She also entered the masters program in The School of Education, and received her M.S. in Adult Education in 1983.  One interesting grad school project Mary completed for MAG 506 (Magazine Article Writing) involved a 500-word autobiography:

Mary received her M.S. in 1983 (on the same day her son Jerry received his Ph.D., and her grand-daughter Carrie Murphy made her First Communion)

Mary enjoys cooking, writing, and traveling, especially to Ireland.  In 1980, Mary and Monty bought part-ownership of a sea-side cottage near Wexford, Ireland.  She has visited Ireland many times, often accompanying her Irish-Step-Dancing grandchildren.
